I was sort of freaking out because he wasn't answering my calls and he wasn't in Anchorage with his friends like he told me, I thought he was hurt or something. Then Jackie tells me she has a surprise in the hallway and I see a weird dark shape in the hallway, and realised it was him!!

It was a great weekend, he spoiled me rotten and lavished me with attention :) I can't wait to go home Thursday and spend a whole week with him!

I think I'm going to steal Keegan for a sleepover one night too, give mom and dad some mom-and-dad time, or something. ^_^

This week is already going well :D

....and shame

Last week was full of a few epic fails. I've learned over the past couple days it is NOT an online class I want to devote one day to. I want to spread it out over the week because it HURTS YOUR HEAD WITH ALL THE WORDS.

Each week, I have a quiz, read 7 or so essays and do a summary on each, and then analyse a news article and write a response to it stating why it relates to this week. Typing it out doesn't seem so bad. I actually feel a little whiny. BUT STILL. My brain is a fart right now.

This class isn't what I thought it would be content-wise either; we're basically disecting every aspect of sex. I thought it would have more to do with sexual identification across the world or something, but I guess that's more of an anthropological view. *Sigh* It's still interesting though. I think I'm just rusty with actual school work. This 300 class reminds me of senior year actually *insert eye roll*.

I hates college.

A Public Service Announcement from your friendly UAF residents

There was a guy singing Journey songs this morning at 1 am. Well, I still have boxes to unpack and stuff to put up on the walls, but we do have a few posters and Christmas lights up!

I've only had one of my classes so far, Intro to Psych, but it seems pretty interesting. Lots of reading though. No real homework, just study for the tests and pass them. And I think the class will help me understand my "Human Sexualities Across Culture" class.

That class is going to be crazy. I kinda wish it were a discussion class instead of online because it would be cool to talk to people about how they think about sex and sexuality, but even so, it's still going to be very interesting. There's even a few chapters on how instant communication has impacted sex and what it means. WAY COOL.

My first payment on my Ecuador trip is down! I'm going to Guayaquil, Ecuador for six weeks in June/July to do animal rehabilitation.

I'm really excited to go on this trip, meet new people, and make an impact somewhere that isn't Alaska. This trip will be a definite jump out of my comfort box, and it'll be hard to be away from everyone for so long (I'll be heading to Ecuador straight from NY after the big Ireland trip with Cat and Papat, so I won't be home from May 22 till early August). But at the same time I'm really really excited to go do this!!

Tomorrow is my first day of art class, hopefully it'll be interesting too. But I'm not really jazzed to go to class right at this moment. Really, I'd just like to go home. I had a lot of fun spending time with Cody and his mom and seeing my family and high school buddies again. The weather was really wacky though. And now I'm back in Fairbanks.

This semester I'm rooming with my friend Jackie and so far I think it's going to be a blast. We switched dorms, and so now I'm closer to the Tilly (cafeteria), most of the school buildings, and the Student Rec Center. And our room is bigger than my old one, granted, we bunked our beds which freed up some space, but still it feels sooooo much bigger. Pictures to come after all my junk is moved in! I'm staying with Cody and his mom over the break, and flipping over to mom's house to hang out ever once in a while. The last two days I've just been hanging around the house with the dogs, playing games and watching Food Network. Although today I did clean the house up and make short bread, and yesterday I made fried chicken, corn, cornbread and salad for dinner.

Cody's mom bought a Wii and a brand new big HDTV for Christmas, so we've been having fun playing that.

My grades haven't been posted yet, which is annoying because I was finished with finals on Monday morning. But my math prof has jury duty, and the rest of my biology class just took the final yesterday, so I guess I'm just a bit anxious.

And I was talking to mom yesterday and found out my birthday/Christmas list went MIA in the mail. So... if you were planning on getting me something and didn't have any ideas, I'm up for pretty much anything that involves getting clothes (we have Gottschalks, American Eagle, Fred Meyers in Fairbanks, and those and JCPenny, Target... etc in Anchorage/Wasilla), or you could donate to a chairty for me instead, or help me pay for my Ecuador trip ^_^ I love you guys! <3

BLAH. I'm waiting for 3 to roll around so I can head over to mom's and say hi to everyone, and then go pick Cody up from work to do some Christmas shopping. woo.

UGH!

So I finished all my finals! I did manage to get to bed around 4am, and got 2 hours of sleep before my math final! YEY! BTW THANK GOD FOR COFFEE. I think I did pretty good on my final ^_^

AND I'm nearly done packing. I just need to take care of dishes, the fridge/microwave, and my bedding. I'm really tired but I can't sleep because I had a 24 oz coffee and the caffeine is still coursing through my system.

I also realised why I hate being away before 12; no one's awake to talk to! I'm soooo lonely. I can't talk to dad or Cody coz they're at work, none of my friends are really awake or if they are they're testing. >_<

BUT I go home tomorrow!!

Finals

I took my biology final this afternoon and I totally pwned it. My guess at a grade? At least a 94%. My lowest test score for that class is an 82% and I hadn't studied for the test. My other three grades were a 92%, a 94% and 100% (yes a 100%!!). I'm guessing I'll end up with a 92% (which is what I've had all semester) or maybe a 93%. Yay for an A!

My math final starts in 6 hours. I can't sleep. I feel asleep for 4 hours earlier this evening, but I haven't been able to sleep again since I woke up. I've laid in bed and tried to sleep. I tried playing solitare to make me sleepy, and tried cleaning. Nothing worked. So I studied some more and cleaned some more, and now I'm putzing about the interwebs trying to wear myself out.

I think I'm having problems sleeping because 1) I'm nervous about my test 2) I'm stressed coz I'm trying to move in the middle of finals (I have to have EVERYTHING packed up and cleaned up before I leave early Tuesday morning) and 3) I really want to go home. My friends are back from college, I miss Cody really badly, I want to see my family, and it's Christmas! And my birthday! I'm gonna be twenty! So I'm trying to rest up some so I won't be at a disadvantage during my test, but I'm also trying to be constructive during my sleeplessness.

Packing's kinda hard because I still need to use my coffee maker (not gonna be able to function without coffee tomorrow), my fridge has food in it, etc. Plus I have to pack my clothes still. But I have all day tomorrow to pack and move everything downstairs.

BLAH.

I'm almost done for the night

I'm (nearly) done for the night. Don't worry my roommate isn't around, I'm not being rude.

Pre-finals week is the worst week ever

I'm stressin' out over my math class. My math teacher did something with the way she weighted out grades and my score went down the pooper. I'm so upset. I work really hard, do all more homework, get 100% on them and my in class excersizes; but my test scores suck, and the way she weighted everything, tests account for 60% of the grade. 60%! Ugh. I'm hoping it looks dismal because the computer is counting our final into the grade, which we haven't taken yet.

I had my biology final moved to Sunday so I could go home early (really so I could go home: I have a ride on Tuesday and if that falls through I have someone to hitch a ride with Thursday). And I was hoping to use tonight and Friday as my main studying times so I could devote the rest of my weekend to Maths. But my teacher hasn't posted the homework/study guides that we need for our last two chapters, or the notes for the past three lectures. Which leaves me a little screwed for Sunday. I take that back, she posted the lecture notes finally. I just checked. But there's still no homework, which is what's really important.

And to make my day major suck: David's Bridal has discontinued my wedding dress. Which means it's no longer my wedding dress, and I have to find something different. Mom, I know you said that you and Granma would maybe be able to get together to make me one, but I wasn't sure if you'd be able to get it done in time (I have no idea how long it takes to make a wedding dress). I love you Ma.

So I'm going to just take a deeep breath. And maybe another. And then I'm going to put on some badass music and clean, organise, and pack up my room, and no worry about classes right now. This doesn't mean I'm procrastinating or ignoring my school work, I've already studied for a while, and I need to pack. And do laundry.

Wish me luck, I'll keep updating! Eye on the prize : Home on Tuesday WOOT!

Decembre

I feel kinda stupid: this morning I got up and went to my math class, got there and the teacher was already teaching! And I was early even! Or so I thought. Apparently today is Monday, not Thursday, and class started at 915 NOT 945. Way to go Fred.

Updates!

I'm moving onto Lower Campus with my friend Jackie. Closer to classes, food, the gym. The library. Yeah.

Cody and I are seriously thinking about moving to Bellingham. I want to go to Western Washington, and the change would be fun. Then of course I remembered that the economy is shifty, jobs are getting harder to find, etc. So we might rely on Plan B.

Plan B: Cody and I move to Anchorage, and I go to UAA. Not a bad back up. I rather like it. Not as warm but hey, better than Fairbanks.

I tried to dye my hair blonde and black (blonde on top, with black layers underneath) just before Thanksgiving. However, it seems that blonde is completely against my nature, and would not take to my hair for anything. I bleached it, used colour stripper, and then bleached it again. No luck. It's back to a more natural brown now, but there's still blonde bits peeking through. Two words: EPIC FAIL.

No updates on Ecuador yet. Note that if Washington goes thru, I'll still go to Ecuador. I'll take a semester off school, spend two weeks teaching English, spend another two weeks doing wildlife research and conservation, and then take a week for myself to explore the Galapagos Islands. I haven't gone off campus since Cody came up two weeks ago so it was really nice to get out on the town! She was really sweet and bought me lunch, then we went to her hair appointment at Elements Salon (which is really really nice), and we hit up walmart for some groceries, scarf material and a calc for me. We went to her house and started to do ear candling, but the candle was scary and flamed really high, and smoked alot and Nicky decided it was a not good idea today lol. So she dropped me off at the dorms and I'm really happy with my day, except that Private Practice isn't online so I don't know what I'm gonna watch when I'm knitting. Before I started this, I could only knit scarfs, so if you don't know how to knit there are TONS of resources on the net, and you have no excuse! Learn and then knit while you watch TV. Save a baby.

School is going well, I have an A in my biology class, and I got the third highest score in the class on our last test. My math class isn't doing as well; I bombed my first test which took my grade from a 99.9% to a 73%. So I'm working harder, taking better notes, and getting a math tutor.

Cody is coming up this weekend to spend time with me, he'll be here sometime tonight and won't leave until Tuesday afternoon! We're going to go on a movie date and maybe go to Chena Hot Springs :D I'm excited. I'm really anxious and hate waiting.

Back to my Jane Austen-ing; so far I've downloaded five J.A. novels, and have listened to Mansfield Park, Persuasion, and Sense and Sensibility. I frickin' love Jane Austen. I own the A&E version of Pride and Prejudice (it's like 5 hours long) and I watch it sometimes when I knit on the weekends. I have all of her novels all collected in one of those giant old fashioned -looking hardbound books that you get at Barnes and Noble (aka the best place EVER).

I tried making a poor-man's mocha and failed. I think I messed up making the coffee; my coffee maker's kinda off, I might have to get a new one. LAME. It's really nice to have around for making hot water for tea or top ramen or oat meal (pretty much what I live off of anymore).

I think I'm going to draw a pretty picture for my wall because there's a blank spot that's bothering me.

Knit One Save One

Help save a life: knit a cap.
Go to
http://www.savethechildren.org/programs/health/child-survival/survive-to-5/knit-one-save-one.html
to get started.

gahd, ridiculous

I don't like living in a wet dorm. Not because I hate drinking or whatever, and I'm not anti-party (though it's not my scene), but having a party on a Wednesday night is rather ridiculous. Just because you don't have class doesn't mean that other people don't. And when people say "yeah, party is ok) we still expect you to be respectful of us. That means don't be so loud that we can hear you through your door, four plus doors down the hall. That means don't bring your party out into the hall where you continue to be loud. That means don't slam doors and bang on things.

RAs are supposed to stop this sort of thing.

It really sucks when its 130, 2 am and you can't remember the RD's number or the RA on-call number.

It's things like that that make me glad I do don't the college party scene.

Second Year

Yesterday, I came back to Fairbanks. Yeah, I wasn't supposed to end up back here, but I had issues with UAA, and so I'm back.

I didn't bring as much stuff this year, which is nice because my room doesn't feel all cluttered. My roommate is really cool, and I think we'll get along. She's an art major and likes comics.

Being here without Cody is really, really, disconcerting. Things don't seem the same without him, and it's kinda lonely. Of course, I don't have anything to do yet since classes haven't started, so I'm not distracted by class work. I finished a scarf, and was going to start a hat, but I don't have the right needles for it. BLAH.

Now I'm just waiting for classes to start tomorrow so that time will feel like it passes by faster, so that I can see Cody sooner, and I can be done with this stupid place.

Bartlett doesn't seem to be as well kept as Moore was - the shower stalls don't close well. Well, I mean, the concept is simple enough, but still, pee in a cup for a job? The actual practice is more complicated.

Firstly, you can never pee when you need to. It's impossible. You can drink litres and litres of water, and have to pee so bad, but once you get in that weird little bathroom and bust out the cup, your bladder turns into the world's tightest holding tank.

Secondly, when you can pee, you never make it entirely in the cup. I mean, I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that even men, who have more precise peeing equipment, even miss. It's a law of physics. Plus, there are weird instructions you have to follow, like "pee for 3-5 seconds before aiming for the cup". What? Like I really want to be peeing in a cup, and now you want me to wait before I fill this thing?

If you can. That's the third thing I hate about pee tests. You have to fill to a certain line or the sample is void. No matter how much you drink, you just can't seem to make the liquid hit that little line. Why couldn't you use that first three seconds of stream again?

Why do we have such a fascination with peeing in awkward ways any way? Pee your name in the snow, pee in a cup, a bottle, on a stick. It just brings to mind that weird scene in Knocked Up where the sisters are taking pee tests to see if Alison really is pregnant, and they have a bajillion prego tests, and they just pee and pee. That's so not real. You'd probably be so nervous that you couldn't pee at all. Great movie though.

Everyone seems to pregnant anymore. My aunt just had a beautiful baby boy, my fiance's sister is due in about a week, this guy at Wal*Mart and his wife are having one in a couple weeks, there were several women walking around pregnant. Why does everyone seem to be pregnant? Is it just coincidence? Is it just that because I'm older I notice? What?

And apparently there's going to be a Civil War in Alaska. I've chosen to express this in comic form:

I so can't draw, but you get the idea. Sorry I couldn't make it bigger...

relationships

I think the thing I miss most about having a brand new/ the early part of a relationship, is the "no you hang up" wars. They're always so fun, and they almost always start a new conversation that lasts for another hour or so.

When you've been in a relationship for a while, and are really used to each other, the phone conversations seem to get shorter, and the NYHU wars end. It's a little sad. So we were being sullen, and not talking, and I daydreamed about wedding dresses and whatnot, when all of a sudden, Cat yelled "Oh my God!" and swerve/hit the breaks.

I looked up from my martial meditation to see something that looked like a very large, very angry, grey cat sitting in the road by our front tire.

Okay, so it wasn't actually there for very long, because we were moving at about 60 mph, but at that moment in time, it was sitting by out tire.

Cat freaked, she thought she had hit it. I thought the rear tire had hit it. What's more, I was damn sure she had hit a cat, and my sister being who she is, doesn't deal well with animal death.

"GODDAMN PORK-U-PINE!"

Turns out, it wasn't a cat, but a porcupine (which we do have up here, I guess), and she was pretty sure we hadn't hit it. She was also pretty upset. We turned around to see, going like, 30 mph, until we found our skid marks, took the next turn around ("Elsewise that goddamn porcupine will be there and I WILL run him over"), and looked for signs of hittage.

I saw the fat bastard waddle into the woods.

Seriously tho, of all the things we COULD hit in Alaska, a porcupine? It's half referenced in my non-updated, non-artistic comic "Redundant Dino" which is located at Drunkduck.com. It's only a title page and one comic page, and not worth the time it takes to hunt it down.

World War II games are insanely popular with XBox, PS3, and computer gamers; but most of the games don't actually make you work for victory: if you play as an American or an Ally, you pretty much just have to keep playing until you win all the missions and thence WWII. There's no ... point to it, no "wtf the Germans WON? CRAP!", no reason to spend 3+ hours playing the game.

Note that I'm basing this off the games Cody has, and what I've heard him and Sean talk about. There might be games out there where the Nazis win, but I highly doubt it, because I'm pretty sure the Holocaust survivors would be more than a little peeved that someone released a game where the Nazis win, and the world is turned into a bunch of Aryans. The Aryans, whom, in case you slept thru history class, you tard, hate the Jews, Gypsies, disliked people with dark hair or eyes, blacks, gays, and tele-evangelists ('kay I made that part up, they probably LOVE tele-evangelists just because no one else does).

But a (virtual) realistic threat of Aryan take over isn't the only thing these games lack: they need a reptilian influence, the real reason why America has won all it's wars: VELOCIRAPTORS!
The history books have it all wrong: the dinosaurs didn't all die out, a small colony of raptors managed to survive on a little island in the new world called Rowan Oak, and were discovered by the English colonists who tried to cultivate that place (and went missing, hnmmm). They were discovered once again by Northern forces during the Civil War, who used them as a secret weapon in the calvary, totally smashing any Southern opposition. Which was a big bummer for the Southerners, and partially why many of them believe that they won the Civil War, and bitch a lot.

To progress.

This secret Raptor Calvary was used as a last resort during WWII, since things weren't going as well as the Americans had hoped in Europe, and the French and English weren't able to hold their own. This is also why the Americans managed to totally distroy the Japanese so quickly. Yeah the island hopping thing was annoying, but we had raptors. What can you do against them? Quiver, but that just makes them all the more excited to eviscerate you.

Just image you're in a trench somewhere in France, it's cold, it's rainy, it's dark, there are mortars exploding all around you, shots being fired; you peek over the edge of the trench to get a grasp on the battle and OMFG THERE'S A RAPTOR IN YOUR FACE!!!!

You'd just piss your pants and quit wouldn't you?

Unfortunately, after alien contact and information exchange sometime in the 1950's, the CIA disbanded the Raptor Calvary, had the creatures put down, and their handlers "reassigned". The age of the reliable, terrible Raptor was over, and the age of the lame technological failures began.

So really, the video games need to be more accurate: lets have the gamers sweat a bit because they might lose WWII (not just because they had to sit up a bit to get a new Dew from the mini fridge), and throw the historical accuracies back in: namely the great Raptor Calvary. Is that really too much to ask?

rah!

I can end the world in a holocaust

Aren't you glad I won't?

Today was a bit of a crap. I woke up at 9ish, took a shower, and then went back to sleep. Got up, ran errands, went golfing, came home, did chores, went to see Cody, and ended up going to hang out with him and his friends. Which turned out to be hella fun: we went to Taco Bell, and the Amoosement Park, and then back to Zac's. However, I sort of had my heart set on snuggling on the couch and watching a movie, just the two of us. Can't have everything you want, I guess.

My brain is imploding.

I just applied for a job with WalMart in the Garden center. I know I swore I would never work there again, but I'm getting desperate, and it does pay better than it did before ($9.70 instead of just $8.50... thats $1.20 yeah?). Plus, it's a good "seasonal" job, and I get to go outside, which I love. I won't need much training either. Woot.

I wanna run away to Mexico, and have a little cantina, and never ever come back. Watch me, I'll do it.

Oh. Right.

I totally forgot that I was going to start blogging everyday.

Terrible I am in the ways of the blogger, mmmm.

I'm home. And I actually have a room which is nice because it's windy as hell outside. I'm almost all unpacked, which is weird, and I'm trying to purge as much as possible. Because I have too much stuff and I don't really want to have it all. It's just too much.

I've applied for jobs with Princess Tours at their Mt. McKinley Lodge, and on the railway, still waiting to hear from the Kenai Lodge; I applied to four jobs at the two local Fred Myer's, and I'm planning to apply for a job with GCI, and I finished an application for a job at NAPA. Now all I can do is wait. I hate waiting.

I'm having a bit of a hard time adjusting to living at home again. There are rules here (no drugs, no alcohol, no smoking - not hard. No boys - hard because I have Cody. And no being out uber late because it wakes up the house when I get home - hard, because I'm now nocturnal.), and I have no real time to myself, because it seems like every time I sit down to have time to myself, someone calls me, which is kind of annoying. I also don't like not being able to do what I want when I want, etc. Not being in charge of myself is really really annoying since I'm used to being my own Lady and Mistress and not bother with following orders. WTF mate.

Hopefully, when I get a job, things will get easier, not harder. And then when I go to UAA, everything will fall back into place, and next summer I'll have enough money to get my own apartment. Which would be amazing. 'Spensive tho.

Which reminds me, I got a $500 scholarship from the teachers at PHS last year, and I'm getting it towards helping pay my UAA tuition next year, which will help towards books (Textbooks are ridiculously expensive!), and I am so grateful to those teachers who donated to the scholarship fund. You guys are really amazing.

And now, a cow.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://ohnoimbloggish.blogspot.com/2008/05/oh-right.html' title='Oh. I have almost everything boxed except for a few things including my stereo, laptop (durh not gonna be packed), fish, catus, and some other random things I need to sustain me for a day.

I had Cherry Coke and Doritos for breakfast. At 4 am.

Cody leaves today after his final - his goal is to be on the road by 2, and home by 7 (?). Mom and Dad are coming for me tomorrow (THANK GOD!): I am so ready to be home.

I talked to Keegan earlier this week, and apparently he's so excited that I'm coming home for the summer that he "just doesn't know what to do!". I love that kid! He's an instant high with all that energy.

Jill's mom Sue, whom I've known since I was 5, is up helping Jill bring her stuff down (there's a lot, plus she's driving Sean down when she leaves Saturday and she'll have HIS stuff too....), and she bought us dinner and ice cream last night. She is one of the world's biggest sweethearts; just one of those people that always wants to help and do things for you. She's been like that forever, she's like another mom to me. :D We're going to hang out with her some more before she leaves sometime today.

My final is tomorrow, it's gonna be a breeze: give a 5 minute shpeal about why you are amazing and deserve your dream job. I get to tell everyone why I am going to be a guide at the Center for Alaska Coastal Studies asap. The only glich in my plan is that to actually have the job, I need a BA/BS in Biology - however, I do have nearly 20 years of experience in Alaska and even on the coasts so... I have amazingness that others with a 4 year degree cannot compare with. EAT IT! HAHAHAHA.

Yes I'm feeling much happier than I was, it's summer. It's amazing. I'm going home. What's not to love?

Pictures of packing to follow later... they're nothing remarkable... YET. OH!

ha. When I did get to give my speech, my slideshow that I had made to go with it wouldn't work, which made my speech less awesome.

I didn't do so well in my classes. Hopefully it won't hurt me too bad.

My retainer broke. For the third time. I'm getting it fixed at home next Monday. I think I'll be getting one of the clear removables to replace the permanent retainer that I have right now. But until then, my wire is bugging the hell out of me.

Wal*Mart wants me to get up at 7 AM to get boxes so I can pack. Whatever.

On the bright side, it's been sooo warm, and it rained today - actual rain! no snow! And I saw a mosquito (that's only good because now it's summer), and grass! And I have no classes until Friday, and I get to go home Friday! WEEE!!! And I found most of my batteries which also made me happy.

I need to take some pictures. Jazz, awesome jazz. Homigosh. Go check them out.

Last night, Cody and I had a temp job for Icing doing inventory. We hate Icing now. A lot. It was boring, boring work, and we only made like $30. Meh.

On the bright side, it's warm again. It was 60* all last week, and then it snowed for a bit, and now it's 40* again. I love warm weather.

I have gotten two rejections from Princess Tours about getting a job with them in Anchorage, so I have one hope left (a job on the Kenai as a prep cook). I also got rejected from AT&T. And from GCI. And my other applications won't go through, so hopefully I can find a decent job this summer, I really don't want to go back to Wal*Mart or have a minimum wage job: they're just not worth the time you put in. Wish me luck, I need it.

Other than that, I'm just pushing to the end of the semester (13 days thank god). I have a speech to give this week, labs to make up, a physics final, and my speech final. Hopefully I can make it to the end of next Friday in one piece.

I haven't heard back from UAA, but as soon as I do, I will let you guys know.

I start packing this week! Went home again this last weekend, saw an Aces game, met Shasby *glow!* got an autograph and a picture. And had a revelation: I don't want to be a pharmacist. I thought about it, and I think I'm going switch majors from chemistry to biology and be a marine biologist, and teach high school biology. Yes, I'm crazy: I've totally lost my mind. But that's okay, I think I'll be much happier as a teacher than as a pharmacist, especially since marine biology is my passion.

Before I wanted to do chemistry because I was interested in it and it made a lot of money; but it's not making me happy. I thought I had to be uber successful and cure cancer or something to make everyone proud, but after talking with mom and dad this weekend, I found out that that's not something that's expected of me (which made me feel much better you have no idea).

So, I'm going to be switching majors, going to UAA, and hopefully in 4 years or so I'll be a teacher. Huzzah for carrying on tradition.

que lastima

i'm terrible at blogging. sorry.

this weekend i'm either a) going home (again) for the weekend or b) going to Chena Hotsprings

only problem is i have no swimsuit. :S

cake.

waiting for the jet plane

omigosh i'm so glad to be out of fairbanks. even tho it got warmer (40*+), it still sucks hardcore.

so last night, mom made steak and potatoes for dinner, and pound cake (my favourite!) and strawberries for desert. then randi and madeline came over and we hung out, went for a drive, got icecream, rented "Stardust" (watched it) and played a little guitar till early in the morning (WAY FUN!)

Today, we went to the Aces! I had class and class and class (which actually really sucked) and a test for my online math class. Then it turns out that Marshall, Rosie, and Bethany came up from Anchorage to see Jackie for her (late) birthday. Which is awesoem! Because I miss them (and everyone else) terribly. So we all went and saw "Definetly maybe" which is an awesome movie, and then called it a night.

Then at 3 am, there was a fire alarm - not a drill, but an actual, the-building-may-be-on-fire alarm. Which is scary shit at 3am when you're not all there. I ended up having a panic attack outside, but thankfully not going down the 18 flights of stairs to the bottom floor. No one knows what happened yet - the staff hasn't said anything. I'm just hoping they know what/who did it, so that we don' tall have to pay for the Fire Dept. and Ambulance coming to the building (it's a hefty fine, and if they can't figure out what happened, who did it, we all have to pay).

Exciting Friday night eh?

Oh dear

Cody recently discovered Starbucks; more specifically, Starbucks' Caramel Fraps. there is nothing more hilarious than a big guy wearing jeans, Carharts and a Fox racing hat, holding a Venti Caramel Frap. Which sucks, because, that's what's holding my bottom front teeth in place (straight). So I called mom, who called Hannah (the wonder receptionist at Valley Ortho), who recommended Dr. Babula, whose office I'm not entirely in love with. At Dr. Babula's, they don't do permanent retainers like at Valley Ortho, so they were a little stand offish about it. But they tried to repair the wire I had, and it broke (?) something happened, and so instead they removed it, and then took a mold of my bottom jaw to make a new one. So I go in on Valentine's Day to get it put in. Cody was convinced it couldn't take off, whereas i had already had this argument with Marshall a few years back, and knew that it could. a bet was made that if I were right, Cody would buy me a dozen roses, and if i were wrong (which i wasn't) i would buy him a game (yey ambiguity). we decided that we would settle the bet with the Mythbusters show that aired 1/30, which happened to be testing this myth. however, we missed the show and so we sort of called a truce. i later talked to Marshall who HAD seen the show, and the plane DID take off -but because it was a prop plane and not a jet, Cody insisted that neither of us won, and that it was a tie (BULL!). at any rate, i'm renting him a game (1/10 the cost of buying it) and he got me some pearl jewelry in lieu of flowers (which works for me).

uhm... i posted other new pictures up on facebook under the photo album "semester two".

we watched the superbowl - i'm not a football fan. at all. rather impressed that the giants totally smashed the patriots tho - last minute. way cool. almost as good as a peewee hockey game. because pro-football can't even touch highschool hockey. hahaha. losers.

i need to do physics now. g'bye!

they say there's something in the water...

Seriously, they do.

There are signs posted in our bathrooms telling us "Not to drink Moore Hall water until after this sign has been removed". Cody, Jackie, and I all drove up yesterday; the roads weren't plowed yet (it'd been snowing like mad) and just before Cantwell, you could barely see ten feet in front of you because of the snow and wind - plus there were snow drifts. Scary times. We made it here okay though. We stopped by Skinny Dick's Halfway Inn, but they were closed (for the winter?).

Now I'm working on unpacking and resetting my room. I don't have class until Friday morning, so I'm not in a major hurry. I'm bored, and lonely (Since Jill hasn't gotten in yet), and my internet isn't working in my room for some reason (I'm on Cody's computer). Meh.

I think this semester will be pretty easy though, wish me luck!!

erp.

*From this morning*

Today I’m babysitting, which isn’t so horrible, since it’s only really one kid most of the day, and she’s napping. I’ve been babysitting these kids for a few days now. They can be pretty bad, but are generally good kids. Problems that y incur include the usual getting into things I’m not supposed to, eating things I’m not supposed to, and lying about things I’m supposed to do (not supposed to do) because the babysitter doesn’t know better. But that isn’t so much of a problem today, since I only have one kid until 3, and she’s to nap until then.

My problem is, I have nothing to do. There’s no internet connection that I can see, I didn’t bring a book because I assumed the whole world has an internet connection, if not wireless internet, and I was planning on blogging. A lot.

And I don’t have Adobe Photoshop anymore, my free trial ran out, which sucks because I was going to start to blog-scrap, all electronically, so I could document stuff. I like scrapping, I just don’t have the patience or whatever to sit down and scrap with real paper – that and I never really print photos. The scrap-urge usually comes infrequently, and when I have no pictures that I can use. By the time that I order pictures and get them, the urge is gone, and the photos sit in a drawer for years. So my solution was to e-scrap, and blog by “pages”. I also want to learn flash so I can make stories about friends and family that are funnier than looking at pictures and reading captions.

On my to do list: learn flash, get a photo-retouchy-fixer-program-thing, and figure out my real plans for next year.

All these need the net.

Figures.

*end*

so... now I'm downloading an Adobe Flash trial. it's taking FOREVER. But I'm really excited, and I think I'll have a lot of fun playing with the program for the month I get to use it. I already have some things lined up for my first flash, and hopefully it'll be fun. My second flash project will (hopefully) be centered around my comic (that kinda failed) "Redundant Dinosaur" with the theme of how lame XBox/XBox360/Playstation/Wii/Computer games are, and how none of the WWII games let the Nazi's win (I'm NOT a facist - it just makes the game more realistic and gives it a sort of purpose I think. The same could be said for American Revolution games if there really were any), and how velociraptors are never used, even though they would be awesome weaponsfor trench warfare.

No, I don't do drugs, smoke anything, or drink alcohol. I'm completely sober when I come up with these ideas. I only had to wake up at 6:20, put some warm things on and drive; Cat woke up at 5:30, took a shower, got ready for school, and has to be in class all day.

I think that formal school (where you go to class from seven something to two something) ends when you're eighteen, not because you're ready to enter the new world, but because The Institution knows that by this point, only a dedicated hand full are going to the full seven hours of school anyway, and that even they are sick of the whole thing.

College is better. Most people aim for the later classes, so they can wake up at ten, get some stuff done, go to class at two, get out an hour later, maybe have another class or two that day and BAM! you're done. Of course, college sucks because it's expensive, i.e. University of Oregon (the school I'm trying to transfer to) is $19,338 a year in tuition alone. $20,000 in tuition! Tuition at my current school is $2,248 in tuition; next semester will cost me a total of $5,500, which makes my bill for the first year of college a grand total of $11,000.

Why am I switching? The food sucks. The campus isn't a "realistic college feel", and I'm miserable at Fairbanks. I hate cold and dark: winter's suck, and the fact that I knew this and then moved north so I'd be colder for longer and in the dark longer made no sense.

So the plan is to go to Oregon, get an apartmento with the lovely Alishab, and go to UofO, and put myself WAY into debt. What if I can't transfer? I'll a) go to Oregon anyway, and go to Community college near UofO and live with Alisha or b) go to UAA, because it's less cold, and dark here in south central compared to the interior.

For people who are wondering about poor Cody, he's okay with this. He's been very sweet about the whole thing, and knows I hate Fairbanks. No he isn't coming with me to Oregon, he's going to stay at UAF and finish school there. He doesn't even want to go to UAA; he; likes Fairbanks (God knows why). We're staying together, just not geographically; he's too good for me to give up.

On another note, CAKE!

HA! Now that I have you dazed AND confused, I make my escape!

Interview with an Eight Year Old

Keegan and I had a sleep over. New Years.

Went to Megger's as per tradition demands, and ohmigod. The first two hours were a girl's night type thing, where we decorated cupcakes, and chatted girly chat before Marshall showed up. Then we watched Knocked Up until we realised it was very nearly midnight, which means we should toast or something. So we all scrambled to figure out exactly what time it was, and how to change the TV to the news so we could watch the Ball drop. We got to watch just in time. Then we set off fireworks, and I nearly brained Cody when I was startled by a really loud firework (he showed up at 1130, just like he promised). And then.... we played games and hung around.

I woke up this morning, and my car was covered in obscenities. Funny obscenities, but not exactly what you want on your car when you drive around town. Unfortunately, for Cat, I was driving her car. Luckily for Dad (and me!) I didn't drive HIS car that he needs for work. So, I owe Cat a carwash. And I'm really tired.

I need some breakfast.

Towards the end of Decemeber

Christmas was pretty fun; we got up early and open presents, but everyone was sick so there was no Christmas Dinner. I went and saw Cody and his family, hung out with his ADORABLE 4 year old niece Pheobe, who has become one of my favorite munchkins.

Thursday, I went to Anchorage with Alisha, her sister and mom. We went shopping, which was loads of fun, and had a blast (even thought the Harvest Bread place was closed, and we didn't make it to the Celtic Store).

Yesterday was my nineteenth birthday, and Alisha took me to Johann's in Eagle River for lunch, and then Cody took me to see "The Golden Compass" in Anchorage. I've been listening to "The Compass" on audiobook, so I knew what should have been in the movie and wasn't. It was pretty good as a movie, although, if you didn't know the story, you might be missing some things, and if you know the story, you might be a little upset at how some things were rushed, skipped over, rewritten, and unexplained.

Monday is the BIG NEW YEARS PARTY! Found out that I have a final on Wednesday, so I can't go home on Tuesday like I thought I could. Originally, Cody and I thought we had our Anthropology exam on Monday after my Physics exam, but it turns out the exam schedule is weird. So unless we can get our professor to let us take it early, we can't leave until late Wednesday/early Thursday (if the weather is bad). Which is disheartening, I've been looking forward to coming home ASAP, and all I have are these three exams on three different days; Cody only has two, one on Monday and now one on Wednesday. Hopefully Prof. Holzlehner will let us take it early. :S

Other than that I don't have much to report. If anyone cares, I have no real birthday plans at this point, but hopefully that will change a little. Maybe I'll just have some people over or something. Movie. Cake. Whatever.

Meh.

December !

AH!

The Thanksgiving break was really needed. Four days in the valley helped cure some of my melancholy. But coming back to school makes me want to go back home more. I miss my friends, and family and the animals. Here I just have Juanito for comfort when everyone is busy, and he's not much for cuddling. Jill and Sean and Cody are tons of fun tho, but I still miss everyone from the old days.

Right now I'm focusing on getting my work done before finals and studying my butt off so I won't be too stressed, won't have too much to do before I head for home. But it's kinda lonely.
Tomorrow I'm gonna try to go into Palmer and see people go to Vags and the VHo! Busy Saturday.

So it starts off with Jill staying in my room Friday night, so that we could make sure we were up in time to take Cody to his Arctic survival class in North Pole, and we were also going to get breakfast. We ended up staying up till 230 and skipping showers because we were going to run late elsewise. So we get the guys and go eat breakfast at a great restaurant called "Sam's Sourdough Cafe", dropped Cody off, and came home.
Around 2, Cody's parents called, and I showed them around the dorms, and then they took Jill and me to lunch at the Chowder House (MEGA good food). Cody was home about then, so we went and spent time with him, took his parents to their hotel, and then went to bed.

Looking back, it doesn't seem like we did all that much, but really we did. I swear.

Marcy (Cody's mom) gave me a polarfleece blanket and some nice warm boots that didn't fit her.

Today, I talked to my Alishab, and we're going to go eat with Little Katie, but not as much fun today because Cody has to do German Translations, and I have to write an essay for English (although I don't know what about yet).

Merp. 10 days.

Jimmy could not wait to get home

So things between Kelsey and I are better. I'm still battle my cold/flu, and now I'm searching for a new roommate; Kelsey and I are no longer friends nor living together. I hate being cold, and I miss everyone at home.

My brighter news has to do with the awesome friends I do have - even if two of them don't talk. Jill, Cody and Sean are pretty much the only people keeping me sane here at UAF at this point. The recent death of Togid (goldfish) and Throckmorton (my other goldfish) have left Juanito (Beta), Paco (Cactus) and I alone on our half of the room; so last night I added a "Drunkard's Dream" cactus, and three crocuses to our little silent family. The crocuses are nothing special yet, but the Drunkard's Dream (named Bill by Cody), is rather adorable, although not pet-able like Paco (Bill will stab you). So here are pictures of my spikey boys, my new shoes, and my darling friend Jill, without her I'd be a blob.

ƪƪƪ your boat! ahaha physics humor... that's so sad. This is a rant about classes - nerk

Mmmmkay, so I had a great post idea in my head all during physics, came home took a nap and now it's Gone. Of course it is. Jeeze. I'm actually starting to really like that class, but I'm not doing as well as I would like (no that doesn't mean I'm failing... I have a "C", but I'm working on trying to get it up to at least a B). It's a hard class for me, I'm not really sure why, I think it's because if you mess up at any point during a problem you're just wrong. It makes homework Hell, but at least on quizzes, we get partial credit for getting the method right. Prof. Price is pretty great, he uses all his class time for notes (which he actually writes down for you on the overhead!), and he uses fun demos (one time he made a cart out of a fire extinguisher), and is just pretty much the funniest science guy ever. Okay so he's a lot like Fry and Koutsky, but still he's pretty great. Our theory on the lack of sanity in scientists is DEFINITELY correct.

Justice is fun, we had a field trip last week, went to the Fairbanks PD station and had a tour. I didn't really enjoy it because I was sick, and almost fainted at one point (woo), but it was still pretty interesting. I might try being a dispatcher one day, it's a hard job, but I think it'd be a lot of fun. We had a test last Thursday, but I have no real idea how well I did or didn't do on it. My professor (Daku) is hilarious, he too mostly lectures in his classes, but it's more of a discussion lecture, and the class does a lot of the talking. We get into a lot of arguments, especially with one guy who is convinced that the world's problems can be solved with a bullet.

Anthropology is still very very hard to stay awake in. Professor Holzlehner at least has actually started to lay out some sort of plan every week, but I think most of his lectures get cut short. And they're really hard to stay awake in. I've started to take naps before class so I don't end up taking one during class.

English... well the teacher (not a professor) is sort of an ass. Scratch that, the is an ass. And he admits it, so I don't feel disrespectful for agreeing with him. We write sooo many papers. I think it's something like two papers a week - and I have that class twice a week. Right now I'm working on a (larger) paper about using marijuana for helping to make living with some diseases easier. No, it's not just "dude, pot for everything!", but looking at the actual, practical medicinal applications of marijuana for diseases like RA, Lupus, MS, and Crones, where people deal with chronic pain, which could be softened by using pot. I might post it when it's done.

That's school for me right now. I haven't done much in the way of anything else. I've been trying to shake off a cold/flu thing for the last two week (this is week three), and it's really hard. Especially since it got really cold out, really fast. I really just want some good homemade soup, but the commons rarely has anything good, and my canned soup tastes like poo. It's very sad. I know.

Mk I'm heading off to anthropology, hope I don't fall asleep. >_<

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://ohnoimbloggish.blogspot.com/2007/10/your-boat-ahaha-physics-humor-thats-so.html' title='ƪƪƪ your boat! ahaha physics humor... that's so sad. We tried to hit up Brewster's for some awesome mozzerella sticks and cake, but they were PACKED. So we drove around some more and then went to the Food Factory which was also packed - so we went to Gallo's, which wasn't.

Everyone who worked there either looked like they worked in the Mafia or were little old ladies - which we decided was very weird for a Mexican restaurant. We decided to get some chimis (Yum!) shredded beef, por supesto, but when we got our delights, it turned out that they were chicken and NOT beef. "Shredded beef" sounds nothing like "chicken", not even slightly. But whatever. The food was AMAZING, and we were really full because they were also rather large and filling. :D Headed back to the dorms and proceeded to chill for another long time. I finally left her room at around 5 am. Which equals about 12 hours of great times. Hells yeah.

Today I slept in until 3 pm. Tired and sick from staying up all night with Jill. And then we decided to go out AGAIN. Went to Brewster's with Cody, and got mozzer sticks (yum!) and burgers, soup/salad, and a teryaki steak thing that was AMAZING! And then we got cake to go which was so freaking amazing, so sinful, that I'm surprised the Devil didn't pop out and go "by the by, I'd like to take your soul, and buy you another slice".

Plus I dyed my hair back to it's normal dark(er) hue. The lightness was freaking me out - it wasn't really a real hair colour, almost orange or something. Not very pretty. Now it is. :D Yess.
Plus I feel somewhat smarter. :D

I can't wait for Thanksgiving!! Soooo loooking forward to real food, kitties, having fun. Erg. The cats are something I miss the most about home. Cats homefood and Keegan. And Cat and Mom and Dad. Then my friends, but most of y'all aren't in the Valley, so what does it matter? I miss you anyways tho, don't get me wrong guys. Well, Alisha who reads this, and then Jill but, dude you're like four floors down.

God I need to sleep.

Because I didn't Post them all

I hate Porcelain

look i put up a slide show.

ten points to me.

I've been really sick the past week, but thankfully it's toned down to just a fever and an occasional headache. I'll skip the crap and go to where Jill Ayla (her roommate) and I went on a girls' night three way date thing. We hit up the College Coffee House (which is kinda like Vags, only not so good), and got coffee and pastries. Then we went to the mall and shopped around until closing. We found a hair salon (mostly for Ayla, who wanted a hair cut and dye - Jill and I are cheap and doing the boxed thing), and a nail salon (the guys there didn't speak good English and tried to get all three of us to get full sets ROTLFMAO no). Then we kinda just came home at 8 something. Woooo. Next time we're gonna make a real deal of it, go shopping, do nails (ourselves?) movies, snacks, the whole five yards. Nine yards.

I really hate the way water tastes here, but I hate buying water because that just seems <s>elitist</s> snobby and wrong, and... wrong? blah.

sNOw

It snowed for the first time today. I had a test in Justice, a test in Anthropology, and a test in Physics. Plus several papers for english. Halo 3 came out this week, and I really didn't care until the people who decided that they needed to run up and down the stairs, slam doors, scream holler bang and yell all night long. I hate games. If it was the night of the HP release, it would have been SILENT (with maybe some cell rings going off as people texted "where r u in HP?" and "ZOMG WTF?!"). But no.

This weekend is the big Blue and Gold game at the Patty Ice Rink which I'm covering for The Sun Star. One of my bonfire pictures got into this week's issue, which made me happy ($25/picture!), but I wish my camera had been here so the quality would have been better (I used a Kodak easy share thing. NOT my camera of choice). According to walmart.com, my camera is somewhere between here and Earth City, MO. meh.

OH! Jill and I got our noses pierced on Wednesday! It was kinda scary, but we're very happy with the results. Pictures to come (soon).

I promise I'll try and keep in better touch with everyone!!!

Toga dance disaster

So there was a Greek-themed dance in the Hess Rec. Jill and I went, dressed in sheet-togas, just to ahve fun. There was a creepy guy who danced with me, but he was WAY to close, so I ran up and got Cody and he hung around for a while before heading back up stairs to rest a bit. Jill and I stayed until almost 1 (that's like three hours), dancing without stopping. Then I finally got back and took a shower, crashed. Only, not really, coz I feel like my stomach is empty, but at the same time very nauseated, and I have a really bad headache. :S I wish I were home.

First College Post (Gad that's bad)

Hello!

So this is my first post since I got to UAF almost a month ago. Holy crud. I love being in college! UAF campus is absolutely gorgeous - it kind of reminds me of Upstate New York. It's more hilly than mountainous like South Central, and there's more of a fall here; not just crappy yellow cottonwoods, but some orange-y colours and even reds. :D I'm uberpissed at Wal*Mart for canceling my camera order TWICE now. So hopefully it'll go through this time.
I might have a job at the University's newspaper, The Sun Star, as a photographer/journalist. I already have my first assignment - I'm covering Starvation Gulch this weekend. Starvation gulch is a big bonfire, party, thing that the university puts on. Sounds like lots of fun. Tonight there's a dance, Toga themed. Kinda freaked, but fun.
Other than that, things are going swimmingly, I love my classes except for english and anthropology. English is horrible because my teacher is a jerk. But the class is really easy - I've gotten really good grades on my papers so far. Anthropology is difficult because my professor is German, and his English is difficult to understand most of the time. That and he says "like" at least 130 times every lecture (they're only an hour long) and he doesn't seem to have a purpose or direction to his lectures. But I love Justice and Physics. Love them.

Yey. Finally got a real blog just for Blog's sake. So hello family!

News of late:

Time Capsule Party!

My friend Marcy planned a party to make a time capsule to open up in ten years. It was a BLAST!! Here's some of the pictures

New Job

I'll be working at the Fair again this year, at my friend's doughnut stand. YEY!

College!

College starts September 6th, and so I'll be headed up to Fairbanks (FBX) on the first. I'm really excited but a but nervous. Cody (my boyfriend) is waiting to get his acceptance letter so he can go up to college as well. I have my classes picked out, I'll be taking Intro to Justice, Chemistry 105, College Physics, Elementry Spanish II, and Fencing. I'm rather excited!! I didn't get my IB diploma, which really upset me, but I did recieve 19 (NINETEEN!!) credits from some of my IB tests (that's more than the maximum bumber of credits your allowed to take at a time).

Other than that nothing huge has been going on.
